This is a photo from the series of Foresta Lupine flowers that I have been shooting and shows the burnt forest and looks south into Foresta and Big Meadow.

Foresta and the surrounding area was burned last August by a NPS set control burn that got out of control. It burned for weeks, almost burned down the homes in Foresta and shut down some parts of Yosemite.

Some good has come out of this, the wild flowers!

Rafting will not open up tomorrow, Friday 6/18/10.
They are hoping the level of the river will be low enough to open next Tuesday.

If you visit Yosemite National Park and read signs printed by the Yosemite Association you will notice the original Native people of Yosemite are identified as mainly Miwoks and a few signs have “Miwok and Paiute”. In reality the original Native American Indians of Yosemite were Yosemite – Mono Lake Paiutes, whose territory included the eastern part of Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties, yet the National Park Service is misleading the general public, visitors, and tourists alike.

The Rafting Rental Stand at Curry Village in Yosemite Valley is trying to open this Friday, 6/17, if conditions cooperate. They need the water to go down just a little bit and slightly warmer temperatures for their magic formula to open. If they cant open Friday it will be any day.
Work is progressing in Tuolumne Meadows with tents and services being set up but there will be no services, no water and no sewer until at the earliest 6/25. Look for the TM Store and Grill trying to open by 6/25 with the other services opening soon after that. The road is open.

The perfect weather continues here in Yosemite with temps in the 70's, white puffy clouds and a stunning azure sky.

We seem to be in a normal summer visitor pattern with no crowds in the morning, short waits at the gates from 9 to 11 and then the typical backup in the Yosemite Falls Area in the afternoon.

The Lupine Flowers in the Foresta Burn Area keep on going with different types popping up weekly. It is well worth it to just drive into and out of Foresta to see the flowers and experience the smell.
