Motorcyclists killed in Tuolumne Meadows on 9.12.10
A motorcyclist was killed in Tuolumne Meadows when a car in the incoming lane crossed over the double yellow forcing the motorcyclist to crash.
The car crossed over the double yellow on a blind corner trying to go around a bike rider. Legally the car should have stopped until there was a clear view of the road ahead before trying to pass the bike rider.
Cars and RV"S have been going over the double yellow more and more either due to inattention or passing a hiker, biker or some car not pulled off all the way. I have to avoid cars over the double several times a day while driving in Yosemite and it seems like the ranger focus their attention on speeders and not folks over the double yellow.

We don't need a wider road,
We don't need a wider road, just better education of drivers. Drivers need to be given a safety checklist at the entrance telling them not to cross the double yellow, to use turnouts if even one car is following them, to not pass bikers except when they can clearly see oncoming traffic. And then list the fines which should be $500 per offense.
Wider roads will just tear up more granite, but wont stop careless drivers, and people who are driving RVs that are beyond their driving experience.
HOW MANY accidents need to
HOW MANY accidents need to occur on the road through the Meadow before it is widened to an appropriate width for a modern, safe highway?
Who is responsible for this highway: they are in dire danger of a huge lawsuit for Neglience in continuing to provide a narrow and poorly planned yet highly used highway for travelers in the park, and something MUST BE DONE!

The roads here are much to
The roads here are much to narrow to fit 2 cars and a bicycle at the same spot. They will never be widened as shown by the work being done on Hwy 41 this summer. They are just repaving and adding curbs.
Hwy 120, The Tioga Pass Road is slated for the some facelift starting next year and it will be a 2 year project!
Drivers need to slow down and or stop when trying to pass bicyclists(or anything for that matter). I can not tell you how many times I have almost been hit by folks passing a bike or a mis parked car and coming over in my lane forcing me to slam on the brakes or off the road. They are the ones who legally are supposed to stop.
As a sad note this is the 2nd fatality involving a biker in a year in Yosemite. Last fall a cyclist was killed on South Drive in Yosemite Valley.
NPS does put these accidents in the news
I was the first responder in
I was the first responder in this accident and have been looking for a follow-up as to the condition of both (yes, there were two) motorcyclists. They were both alive when airlifted from the site.
Please report the FACTS, not regarding speculation. I will not go into more detail as to whom was involved and their condition. I would like to know how both are doing, if any information is available.
