Yosemite buses get surprise inspections
Surprise inspections of commercial tour buses traveling through Yosemite National Park resulted in 22 buses being taken out of service for mechanical defects. Ten bus drivers were prohibited from driving because of logbook violations.
The inspections were conducted over five days between June 9 and 20 by officials from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, California Highway Patrol and the National Park Service.
Inspectors examined 153 commercial buses and found 47 to be safe to operate. Inspectors issued 55 "fix-it" tickets and 35 citations and gave 27 verbal warnings, said Yosemite spokeswoman Kari Cobb
