Yosemite Daily Photo, Old Indian Camping Site? 8/19/11
I stumbled across this the other day in the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite. It appeared to me to be a old Indian camping site as in the center there is a old campfire ring with other rocks around it. What was unusual was the natural bench seating in the background, the granite steps, and the whole area all around was littered with obsidian and white quartz chippings. The ground was covered!
It was located next to a stream with a beautiful swimming hole and a sand beach. Granite slabs extended beyond for thousands of feet.
There were plants growing in the campfire ring so it must be somewhat old and there was no white man trash such as cans or aluminum foil that one always finds at camp sites.
One could sit on the natural bench and just imagine the scene here hundreds of years ago.

It sure looks like a place where someone was working on some kind of tools or arrowheads etc. when you find a lot of chippings. I've noticed that those guys appreciate a nice view just as we do.
However I've never seen such kind of firering. However my experience is limited to findings in Utah and Arizona. I'll forward that question to someone who's more "in the know".
Looks like a white man fire
Looks like a white man fire ring to me.
Yeah, that's what I'm
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.
I've forwarded the pic to someone who could answer this question but he's gone into the wild so it'll take a few more days before I'll have an answer.
