A Window to the Past: New Exhibit in Yosemite National Park to Feature Early Visitor Photographs and Souvenirs

Yosemite National Park, CA....A new exhibit entitled “View & Visitors: The Yosemite Experience in the 19th Century,” will open to the public on June 16, 2010. The exhibit, in the Yosemite Valley Museum features paintings, prints, artifacts and ephemera from Yosemite’s early years. An exhibit opening reception will be held on June 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. located in the Yosemite Valley Museum. There is no cost to attend and food and drink will be served at the reception....

Yosemite National Park Announces Public Meetings and Site Visits for the Tenaya Lake Plan
Yosemite National Park announces a public meeting for the Tenaya Lake Plan.  The meeting will take place on July 10, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Yosemite Valley Auditorium behind the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center. Park staff will discuss the Tenaya Lake Plan including alternative actions, proposed resource restoration and protected sites, and proposed visitor facility changes.  

The public meeting is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the Tenaya Lake Plan. It is also used as an opportunity for the park to hear concerns and comments regarding the planning effort and alternative actions of the plan.

Annual Big Time Gathering: The local community and general public are invited to attend the 37th annual Yosemite Big Time Gathering being held this year August 14th & 15th, 2010. This event takes place in the Village of Ahwahnee located behind the Yosemite Museum and Visitor Center. The songs and dances of Native Californian dance groups will be presented both days. Local vendors and others will display/sell their arts and crafts in the employee parking area across from the Village. This is a good opportunity to enjoy, learn, and support the heritage of Native Californian Peoples.

Yosemite National Park, along with all other national parks across the country, will offer free entrance on Saturday, August 14th and Sunday, August 15th, 2010. This fee free weekend is a great opportunity for people to visit and enjoy America's public lands.

Fees being waived for the August 14th and 15th weekend include only the fees associated with entrance into Yosemite National Park. All other fees associated with camping, lodging or activities within the park are not waived. The fee waiver is good for August 14th and 15th only.
